By all accounts, Braxton Bragg was the absolute worst. People hated him, like really hated him. It might’ve had to do with how annoying his name sounds out loud. He began failing up at birth, which didn’t help. He was born into wealth in 1817 which led to him graduating West Point and a military officership during the Mexican-American War. His best attempts at leadership ended with both sides claiming victory and Bragg receiving promotion after promotion.
After the war, Bragg owned a plantation in Louisiana where he enslaved over 100 Black people, who hated him. When the Civil War broke out, he became a Confederate Commander and lost battle after battle, leading to his commanding officers hating him. A soldier who served under Bragg called him a “merciless tyrant” with an “uncanny ability to turn minor wins and losses into strategic defeat.”
I think you’re starting to get the picture.
