Well, hello there!
If you’re reading this because you follow my writing or 99 Years/Moth/This American Life/storytelling stuff, first of all, thank you! Secondly, you should know that my other job is that I’m a musician. And as a musician who is also a writer, I offer a First Friday Micro-Concert to paid subscribers in which I tell a short story and play a song.
If you’ve been a paid subscriber for a while, you also know that I’ve been having a very difficult time finding a suitable live internet format over the last few months. Basically, the options are zoom or Google Meet. Zoom picks up my voice but not my instrument, which presents a very strange performance in which I appear to be playing fingerpicking air guitar—the most boring style of air guitar. Google Meet, on the other hand picks up everything, but sounds so lo-fi annoying, you’d swear you’re listening to someone using their speakerphone outside.
Now, the good news is that I finally have a solution! Yay! Unfortunately, the bad news is that solution will not be ready until next month. Boooo—BUT…
For the last few summers I have had the tremendous good fortune of teaching at the Ossippee Valley String Camp. They have a faculty concert every year and this summer through even more tremendous good fortune, I got to play with the magnificent Carolyn Kendrick. I posted a clip of us performing this on my instagram a little while ago, but here is the full performance I’ve been saving just for you all!
Please let me know what you all think, and let’s keep this link between us ;)
