By now you’ve probably heard the right-wing conspiracy theories about democrats/Jews/“they” using weather machines to cause the recent hurricanes. And I hope you’ve seen some of the internet’s incredible responses.

The best responses reveal the missed truths within the conspiracy theories. Yes, the change in climate is man-made. Yes, our leaders are at fault. But then they go all cart-before-the-horse and center their own myopic and socially constructed identity and blame whatever imaginary enemies that identity requires. And, really, that is much less frightening than the truth.
